Joint Base San Antonio

In September of 2019, American Water was awarded a 50-year contract to privatize the water and wastewater utilities at Joint Base San Antonio, Texas. The Joint Base is comprised of US Air Force Randolph Air Force Base, Lackland Air Force Base, and US Army Fort Sam Houston. Our responsibilities include system capital investment, regulatory and environmental compliance, planning, asset recapitalization, and long-term operations and maintenance.
American Water will provide water supply, treatment, storage, and distribution across Joint Base San Antonio’s army and air force installations, serving a combined population of over 78,000. As a whole, the water system includes approximately 1 million linear feet of water pipe, 1400 hydrants, 5,000 valves, 30 wells, and 12 tanks. The wastewater collection system and includes approximately 700,000 linear feet of pipe, 2000 manholes, and 24 lift stations.
