In November 2003, under the Department of Defense’s Utility Privatization Program, we were awarded ownership and a 50-year contract for the operations and maintenance of the water and wastewater distribution and collection systems and water treatment facilities at Fort Leavenworth.
Our responsibilities include system capital investment, regulatory and environmental compliance, planning, asset recapitalization, and long-term operations and maintenance. The water and wastewater systems serve a population of over 10,300.
We have used innovative ways to maximize efficiency that has led to savings through our optimization of the facilities. The water treatment system includes clarification, filtration, and disinfection, over 60 miles of pipe, five groundwater wells, two booster pump stations, four storage towers, and numerous fire hydrants and valves.
The wastewater system consists of almost 29 miles of piping and eleven lift stations transporting the wastewater to the City of Leavenworth for treatment and disposal.
